Senate Secretariat to Launch Mobile App as Chairman Gilani Pushes Digital Transformation
ISLAMABAD
In a major step towards modernising parliamentary operations, Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has spearheaded the development of a dedicated mobile application for members of the Upper House, advancing the Senate Secretariat’s broader digital transformation agenda.
The initiative aims to create a more efficient, transparent and technology-driven parliamentary environment by providing senators with secure access to legislative business and official information directly through their smartphones.
The progress of the application was reviewed during a meeting at Parliament House chaired by Chairman Senate Gilani. Secretary Senate Syed Hasnain Haider briefed participants on the platform’s development, key features and its potential impact on parliamentary workflows.
According to officials, the application has been developed using indigenous resources and in-house expertise within the Senate Secretariat, reflecting a commitment to innovation, self-reliance and cost-effective use of public funds.
The mobile platform will provide senators with real-time access to Senate proceedings, legislative agendas, committee business, official notifications, parliamentary documents, schedules and other essential information. The application has been designed with a strong focus on security, accessibility and user-friendly functionality.
Chairman Gilani said the initiative aligns with efforts to promote the e-Office concept within the Senate Secretariat, adding that digitalisation would help reduce paperwork, improve institutional efficiency, enhance transparency and support environmentally sustainable governance practices.
He noted that adopting modern digital solutions would save time and resources while strengthening the overall effectiveness of parliamentary operations.
The Senate Secretariat is expected to formally launch the application in the near future, followed by orientation sessions to familiarize senators with its features and ensure effective utilisation of the platform.
Lawmakers and officials attending the meeting described the initiative as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s parliamentary modernisation efforts and a step towards building a digitally empowered legislature.
