PTA Hosts SATRC Working Group Meeting on Policy, Regulation and Services

The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), today inaugurated the two-day Meeting of the SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services (PRS) from 1 -2 July 2026 in Islamabad.

The meeting brings together delegates from all SATRC member administrations Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka along with representatives of the APT Secretariat and local stakeholders. It is the first meeting under the SATRC Action Plan Phase X (SAP-X), endorsed at SATRC-26 held in Islamabad in 2025.

Delivering his opening remarks virtually, Dr. Masanori Kondo, Secretary General of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), appreciated PTA for hosting the meeting and reaffirmed APT’s commitment to regional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building among member administrations.

Dr. Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member (Compliance & Enforcement), PTA, and Chair of the SATRC Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services, highlighted the importance of the meeting in advancing the objectives of SAP-X and strengthening regional cooperation through forward-looking policy and regulatory initiatives.

Chairman PTA and Chairman SATRC, Maj. Gen. (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, HI (M), SI, welcomed all foreign delegates and emphasized that SATRC is a prestigious regional platform where member administrations come together to discuss common telecommunications and ICT challenges. He encouraged participants to go beyond the formal agenda and engage in practical discussions on the real-world regulatory and operational issues faced by SATRC member countries, with a view to developing collaborative and effective regional solutions.

The two-day meeting will focus on key policy and regulatory issues, technical presentations, and the development of work plans for implementing the SATRC Action Plan Phase X (SAP-X).
