The federal government has proposed a significant increase in funding for the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication in the FY2026-27 budget, underscoring its commitment to digital transformation, technology development, and e-governance initiatives.
According to budget documents, the ministry’s allocation has been increased by 15.8 percent, with more than Rs22.49 billion proposed for miscellaneous expenditures, compared to over Rs19.43 billion allocated during the current fiscal year.
The government has also proposed a 21 percent increase in spending on salaries and allowances, earmarking more than Rs195.9 million to support the ministry’s growing operational and administrative requirements.
Key technology institutions are also set to receive enhanced funding. The budget for the National Information Technology Board (NITB) has been proposed to rise by 16 percent, reflecting the government’s focus on expanding digital governance and public-sector technology initiatives.
Meanwhile, a dedicated allocation of Rs250 million has been proposed for the National Digital Commission, a move aimed at strengthening policy coordination and accelerating Pakistan’s digital development agenda.
