WhatsApp Prepares Major ‘Liquid Glass’ Redesign for Chat Interface

ISLAMABAD

WhatsApp is set to introduce a major visual overhaul inspired by Apple’s “Liquid Glass” design language, signaling one of the app’s biggest interface updates in recent years.

According to reports, the redesign will bring a more modern, translucent look to the app, featuring a floating chat bar and a semi-transparent navigation bar within conversations. Meta is currently testing the new interface internally, with broader rollout expected after development is finalized.

The changes build on earlier beta updates seen in late 2025, but the latest iteration focuses heavily on the in-chat experience — the screen users interact with most. The updated design aims to deliver a cleaner, more immersive interface by introducing layered visuals and glass-like transparency effects.

However, the feature is not yet available even to beta users, indicating that the company is taking a gradual rollout approach. It also remains unclear whether the redesign will be limited to iOS devices or extended to Android users.

The “Liquid Glass” style, originally introduced by Apple in its latest iOS versions, emphasizes translucent elements and dynamic layering, offering a more fluid and visually refined user experience.

Industry observers say the move reflects a broader trend among tech platforms to modernize interfaces while maintaining simplicity, as messaging apps compete to enhance user engagement through design innovation.
