LAHORE

Punjab has completed the deployment of a province-wide surveillance network comprising more than 17,000 cameras, marking one of the largest public security and monitoring initiatives undertaken by a provincial government in Pakistan.

Officials said the camera network now spans all districts of Punjab, strengthening real-time monitoring capabilities for law enforcement agencies and enhancing the province’s broader smart policing framework. The project is aimed at improving public safety, crime prevention, traffic management, and emergency response operations.

The surveillance system integrates high-definition cameras with centralized monitoring facilities, enabling authorities to track incidents, identify suspects, and coordinate responses more efficiently. The expansion comes as governments increasingly turn to technology-driven solutions to improve security and urban management.

Authorities believe the network will help curb criminal activities, support investigations, and enhance situational awareness across major cities as well as smaller districts. The system is also expected to assist in traffic regulation and public event management through continuous monitoring and data-driven decision-making.

The completion of the province-wide rollout underscores Punjab’s growing investment in digital governance and public safety technologies, as officials seek to leverage advanced surveillance infrastructure to improve law enforcement effectiveness and citizen security.
