Pakistan Activates 911 Flood Emergency Call Centre for Islamabad, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan
ISLAMABAD
Pakistan has stepped up its monsoon emergency preparedness by activating a dedicated 911 Flood Emergency Call Centre for Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan, as authorities move to strengthen emergency communications amid heightened flood risks.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has operationalized the special flood emergency call centre at the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), enabling residents of Islamabad, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan to dial 911 for emergency assistance during monsoon-related incidents.
According to officials, all emergency calls received during heavy rains and flood situations in the three regions will be routed through the NTC-operated call centre to ensure faster coordination and response.
The Ministry of IT has entrusted the management of the Flood Emergency Call Centre to the National Telecommunication Corporation as part of broader efforts to improve emergency communications and public safety during the ongoing monsoon season.
Officials said the ministry has finalized arrangements to enhance emergency communication infrastructure, with the dedicated facility aimed at ensuring uninterrupted coordination, timely response, and efficient handling of emergency calls during floods and other weather-related disasters.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen disaster response capabilities by leveraging telecommunications infrastructure to improve coordination between emergency responders and affected communities during extreme weather events.
