ISLAMABAD
Pakistan’s Power Division has introduced a new QR code-based system on electricity bills to provide consumers with transparent details of government subsidies, in a fresh push toward digital governance in the energy sector.
Under the initiative, each electricity bill will carry a QR code that consumers can scan to view the exact subsidy amount they are receiving and complete a simple online registration process for verification, officials said.
The system is designed to ensure that subsidies reach only eligible households, particularly low-income and low-electricity-consuming consumers, while improving transparency in public spending.
Authorities clarified that the move does not signal the end of electricity subsidies but is aimed at strengthening monitoring and preventing misuse of government support.
Officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to digitize utility services and improve accountability in billing systems. Consumers have been urged to complete the QR-based registration at the earliest to avoid disruptions in subsidy benefits.
The Power Division added that helpdesks of respective electricity distribution companies will assist users facing technical issues in the registration process, as the system rolls out nationwide.
