LAHORE
The Punjab government has introduced an AI-powered sanitation monitoring system under its flagship Suthra Punjab initiative, aiming to transform how cleanliness is tracked and managed across the province.
The new system uses artificial intelligence to monitor sanitation conditions in real time, enabling authorities to detect issues, track performance, and respond more efficiently to waste management challenges.
Officials say the move is part of a broader push to digitize public services and improve accountability, as the government seeks to enhance cleanliness standards across urban and rural areas.
The Suthra Punjab program, launched to modernize waste management, already relies on technology such as GPS tracking, control rooms, and public reporting tools to oversee operations across districts.
With the addition of AI-based monitoring, authorities expect faster identification of sanitation gaps, better resource allocation, and improved service delivery.
Experts say the initiative reflects a growing trend of using AI in public sector management, where data-driven systems are increasingly replacing manual oversight to improve efficiency and transparency.
Officials describe the development as a key step toward building “smart governance,” with the potential to create cleaner cities, stronger monitoring systems, and more responsive municipal services across Punjab.
