Instagram is reportedly working on a new update that introduces enhanced text editing capabilities for Reels, aiming to give creators more flexibility in refining captions and on-screen text before publishing.
According to reports, the feature allows users to more easily edit and adjust text overlays within Reels during the editing process, improving control over timing, placement, and styling of text elements without needing third-party apps. The update is currently being tested with a limited group of users.
The new tool builds on Instagram’s existing in-app Reels editor, where users can already add text, stickers, and effects while preparing videos for upload.
The move is part of a broader trend where Instagram is strengthening its native editing ecosystem, reducing reliance on external apps like CapCut and InShot, which are widely used by creators for more advanced editing features.
Industry observers say the change reflects Instagram’s ongoing push to keep content creation fully within the platform, improving both engagement and algorithmic consistency as Reels continue to dominate user activity.
The feature is expected to roll out more widely in future updates, although Instagram has not yet confirmed a global release timeline.
