ISLAMABAD
Pakistan’s telecom operator Zong has expressed support for an industry-wide initiative aimed at increasing public access to 5G-enabled smartphones through handset financing programs, as the country prepares for next-generation mobile services.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Zong Pakistan said the company is actively coordinating with regulators and industry stakeholders to develop a sustainable financing framework for consumers.
“We are working closely with the regulator and industry stakeholders to finalize a framework that is beneficial for customers and the broader industry alike,” the spokesperson said.
Industry experts say affordable access to 5G-compatible devices will be critical for the successful adoption of 5G services in Pakistan, where smartphone affordability remains a major barrier for millions of users.
Telecom operators are increasingly exploring installment-based and subsidized handset models to accelerate digital inclusion and ensure wider participation in future high-speed mobile networks.
The initiative comes as Pakistan’s telecom sector intensifies preparations for commercial 5G deployment, with operators expanding infrastructure and spectrum capacity ahead of an expected rollout.
