Spotify Introduces ‘Verified’ Badge to Distinguish Human Artists from AI Music

Spotify has rolled out a new feature designed to help listeners differentiate between real musicians and AI-generated artists, as artificial intelligence content surges across streaming platforms.

The feature, called “Verified by Spotify,” introduces a green checkmark badge on artist profiles that have been confirmed as authentic human creators. The move aims to improve transparency and trust for users navigating an increasingly crowded music ecosystem.

According to the company, artists must meet specific criteria to receive the badge, including consistent listener engagement and a verifiable presence beyond the platform—such as live performances, merchandise, or linked social media accounts. Profiles primarily representing AI-generated music or virtual personas are not eligible at launch.

The rollout comes amid a rapid rise in AI-generated tracks, which has raised concerns about impersonation, spam uploads, and revenue dilution for human artists. Spotify says the new system is part of a broader effort to provide more context about creators and strengthen authenticity signals across its platform.

Industry analysts note that while the verification badge is a step toward addressing the “AI music flood,” it may not fully solve the issue, as the definition of authenticity continues to evolve and many artists increasingly use AI tools in their creative process.

The feature will be introduced gradually, with Spotify indicating that the majority of widely searched artists are expected to receive verification early in the rollout.
