Sindh Police to Launch Drone-Based Aerial Surveillance Unit to Boost Crime Monitoring

New division aims to enhance real-time oversight of cities, highways, and remote مناطق through advanced drone technology

The Sindh Police has announced plans to establish a dedicated aerial surveillance division using drones and modern technology, marking a significant step toward strengthening law enforcement capabilities across the province.

The proposed unit will enable continuous monitoring of urban centres, highways, railway tracks, and riverine (katcha) areas — regions often difficult to patrol through conventional methods.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, where senior officials reviewed existing surveillance systems and discussed future operational needs.

Officials said a committee of senior officers has been formed to finalise the division’s structure, standard operating procedures, and operational framework, including procurement and training requirements.

Authorities believe the integration of drone technology will significantly improve crime prevention by enabling real-time monitoring, quicker response to incidents, and better identification of suspicious activities.

The system is also expected to support traffic management, crowd control, and monitoring of public gatherings, enhancing overall public safety and coordination between ground units.

Officials described aerial and digital surveillance as a key component of modern policing, emphasizing that the initiative will make law enforcement more efficient, responsive, and reliable in tackling evolving security challenges.

The move reflects a broader push toward technology-driven policing in Pakistan, as authorities increasingly adopt advanced tools to improve security and maintain law and order across complex terrains.
