Senate IT Committee Takes Up Cyberattack Reports on Private TV Channels

Islamabad

Pakistan’s Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication on Wednesday discussed reports of recent cyberattacks targeting several private television channels, with officials seeking to brief lawmakers on the issue in a closed-door session.

During the meeting, the Director General of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT) briefed the committee on the nature of the cyber incidents and the steps being taken to address them.

However, the DG National CERT requested that the detailed briefing on the cyberattacks be conducted in-camera, citing the sensitive nature of the information related to cybersecurity and ongoing investigations.

Responding to the request, the committee chairperson said the panel would first proceed with other agenda items before taking up the cyberattack briefing in a closed session.

“Let us take up the remaining agenda items first, after which the committee will receive the cyberattack briefing in-camera,” the chairperson said.

The committee is expected to review the cybersecurity situation and measures being taken to safeguard media organizations and critical digital infrastructure.
