LAHORE: The Punjab government has extended a province-wide ban on flying drones in outdoor spaces for another 30 days, citing security concerns and the need to protect public safety.

The Punjab Home Department has extended enforcement under Section 144, directing district administrations and police to ensure compliance across the province.

Indoor Drone Use Allowed Under Conditions

The restriction does not completely prohibit drone use. Small drones may still be operated inside halls and marquees for events, provided organisers take full responsibility for their safe and confined operation.

Official operations by intelligence agencies and law-enforcement institutions are also exempt from the restriction, allowing them to continue using drones for authorised activities.

Special Committees to Approve Drone Operations

The Home Department has also ordered the formation of district-level Safe Drone Usage Committees.

These committees will be able to issue written approvals for selected drone activities, including agriculture, irrigation and research, allowing legitimate users to operate drones under controlled conditions.

The latest extension continues a series of restrictions imposed on outdoor drone flying in Punjab. Earlier extensions were also introduced under Section 144 as authorities cited concerns over public peace and safety.

The decision reflects the growing use of drones in Pakistan for photography, agriculture, surveillance and commercial activities, while authorities seek tighter controls over their operation in open areas.

For drone users across Punjab, the message remains clear: outdoor flights require the appropriate official permission, while unauthorised operation remains prohibited during the 30-day restriction.
