ISLAMABAD
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed all cellular mobile operators to provide subscribers with easier access to information about their active Value Added Services (VAS), in a move aimed at strengthening consumer protection and improving transparency across the telecom sector.
Under the initiative, mobile users can now check and deactivate unwanted VAS subscriptions through dedicated USSD codes offered by their respective operators:
- Jazz: *6611#
- Telenor: *4444#
- Zong: *6611#
- Ufone: *6869#
The move is expected to help consumers identify additional services linked to their mobile accounts and prevent unnecessary deductions from prepaid and postpaid balances.
According to PTA, the initiative aims to empower subscribers by giving them greater control over value-added services, including caller tunes, alerts, entertainment packages, and other optional subscriptions that may remain active without regular monitoring.
The telecom regulator said enhanced access to VAS information will improve transparency, strengthen consumer rights, and encourage users to routinely review their active subscriptions to avoid unwanted charges.
Consumer protection has become an increasingly important focus for Pakistan’s telecom industry, which serves millions of mobile users nationwide. PTA said the latest measure reflects its commitment to promoting consumer-centric practices and ensuring greater accountability across the sector.
