ISLAMABAD
Pakistan has launched a new digital passport fee payment system, allowing citizens to pay passport fees electronically through banking channels and digital payment platforms, in a move aimed at modernizing public services and reducing reliance on manual processes.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda and is designed to simplify the passport application process by enabling applicants to make payments without visiting designated bank branches.
Under the new system, citizens can pay passport fees through digital banking services, mobile banking applications and other electronic payment channels, significantly improving convenience and reducing processing delays.
Officials say the digital payment mechanism will enhance transparency, improve record management and minimize paperwork associated with traditional fee collection methods.
The move is expected to benefit millions of Pakistanis by streamlining one of the country’s most frequently used public services while supporting the government’s efforts to expand digital financial inclusion.
Authorities believe the initiative will also help reduce overcrowding at banks and passport offices, making the application process faster and more efficient for citizens both inside Pakistan and abroad.
The launch marks another step in Pakistan’s ongoing shift toward e-governance, as government institutions increasingly adopt digital platforms to improve service delivery, accessibility and operational efficiency.
Officials say further integration of digital payment systems across public services is expected to accelerate the country’s transition toward a more connected and technology-driven governance framework.
