ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has approved a nationwide online system for issuing International Driving Permits (IDPs), marking another step in the government’s push to digitise public services and simplify procedures for citizens travelling abroad.

The decision was approved during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the National Police Bureau (NPB). Under the new framework, applications for international driving permits will be processed through a unified digital platform, replacing fragmented procedures currently followed in different parts of the country.

Officials said the initiative is designed to reduce paperwork, eliminate unnecessary delays and provide citizens with a faster and more transparent application process. Alongside the online permit system, the government also approved a nationwide digital platform for issuing police clearance certificates, enabling applicants to access the service remotely through the National Police Bureau’s online portal.

The reforms form part of the government’s broader digital governance agenda aimed at modernising public services and improving ease of access through technology. Authorities said the National Police Bureau will oversee implementation of the new online systems as part of wider institutional reforms and digital transformation initiatives.

The move is expected to make international travel documentation more efficient for Pakistani citizens while strengthening the government’s efforts to deliver secure, accessible and technology-driven public services nationwide.
