Islamabad
Artificial intelligence adoption in Pakistan remains limited, with only 15 per cent of the population using AI tools, according to a new survey, underscoring a widening digital gap in the country.
The study by Gallup Pakistan found that a significant majority — 85 per cent of Pakistanis — have yet to engage with AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and DeepSeek.
Education Drives AI Adoption
The survey highlights a sharp divide based on education levels. Among less educated individuals, AI usage stands at just 8 per cent, while it rises dramatically to 52 per cent among more educated respondents.
Analysts say this disparity reflects differences in digital literacy, access to technology and exposure to emerging tools.
Youth Leading the Shift
Age-wise data shows that younger Pakistanis are driving AI adoption:
- Under 30: 26%
- 30–39: 10%
- 40–49: 8%
- 50–59: 7%
Experts note that younger users are more open to experimenting with new technologies, while older groups remain largely disconnected.
Early Stage With Growth Potential
Despite rapid global expansion of artificial intelligence, Pakistan appears to be in the early stages of adoption, with usage concentrated among a relatively small segment of the population.
Technology experts say increasing digital education, awareness and accessibility will be critical to expanding AI use across broader sections of society.
They add that with the right policies and training initiatives, Pakistan has the potential to significantly boost its adoption of AI technologies in the coming years.
