ISLAMABAD: Mobile tariffs in Pakistan increased by between 12% and 22% over the year from June 2025 to June 2026, the government has confirmed in a written response submitted to the Senate.

The figures were shared by the Minister in Charge of the Cabinet Division, who said the government had analysed data on the top 10 mobile packages offered by operators during the period.

The response, however, found no evidence of monthly increases of 10% to 20% in mobile package prices.

According to the government, the annual increase of 12% to 22% translates into an average monthly rise of roughly 1% to 2%.

The document said the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) remains informed about tariff changes introduced by mobile operators and regulates the tariffs of operators with significant market power.

Under the PTA Mobile Tariff Regulations 2025, the regulator has the authority to intervene where changes in tariffs or charges are found to adversely affect consumer interests.

The government said the PTA is legally responsible for protecting consumers while also taking into account the need to ensure reasonable returns on investment for telecom operators.

The regulator also conducts anonymous billing verification to determine whether consumers are being charged according to approved tariffs.

Consumers who find discrepancies in tariffs or billing can lodge complaints through the PTA’s Complaint Management System, mobile application or helpline, the government said.

The disclosure comes amid growing scrutiny of mobile service costs as telecom users increasingly rely on mobile data and voice packages for everyday communication and digital services.
