Lahore Launches Zero-Tolerance Crackdown on E-Challan Defaulters

LAHORE

The Lahore Traffic Police have launched a citywide crackdown on motorists with unpaid e-challans, introducing a zero-tolerance policy aimed at strengthening traffic law enforcement and improving road discipline through digital monitoring systems.

Under directives issued by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, special enforcement teams have been deployed across major roads and commercial areas, including Mall Road, Jail Road, Gulberg, Ferozepur Road and Wahdat Road, to identify vehicles with pending traffic fines.

Officials said motorists stopped during enforcement operations will be required to clear all outstanding e-challans before being allowed to proceed, signaling a tougher approach toward repeat violators.

As part of the new enforcement regime, authorities have linked multiple public services to e-challan compliance. Individuals with unpaid fines could face restrictions on driving licence-related services, character certificates and other police verification facilities.

The crackdown is backed by integrated digital systems, including the Safe City surveillance network, Police Khidmat Markaz and licensing databases, enabling authorities to track offenders and strengthen compliance through technology-driven enforcement.

Traffic police continue to issue electronic challans for violations such as signal jumping, lane discipline breaches, one-way driving and excessive vehicle emissions. Officials have also warned motorists against tampering with number plates to evade digital enforcement.

The latest operation reflects Lahore’s growing reliance on automated traffic management systems as authorities seek to improve road safety, reduce violations and enhance compliance in one of Pakistan’s busiest urban centres.
