ISLAMABAD
Pakistan’s 5G rollout is gathering pace, with services now available at more than 1,200 sites across 23 cities just four months after the launch, while the number of 5G users has reached around 1.3 million, Ministry of IT officials said.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) are working with mobile operators to expand the next-generation mobile network to more areas, officials said.

Operators are continuing to install 5G infrastructure and activate additional sites as part of targets set for the nationwide expansion of the service.

The latest figures come after Pakistan held its 5G spectrum auction on March 10, 2026, following which operators began rolling out services in selected areas.

Officials said the expansion to 23 cities within four months represents a significant step in Pakistan’s transition towards faster mobile connectivity, with further sites expected to become operational as network infrastructure develops.

The government and telecom regulator are also working to facilitate the continued deployment of 5G infrastructure, with operators tasked with expanding coverage and bringing the service to more users.

The wider rollout is expected to improve access to high-speed mobile internet and support emerging technologies and digital services that require faster and more reliable connectivity.

With more than a million users already connected to 5G, Pakistan’s telecom sector is now entering a new phase of digital expansion, although nationwide coverage will depend on the pace of infrastructure deployment and network investment by operators.
