Apple is set to launch its new Apple Upgrade program in the United States next week, offering customers flexible payment plans of up to 36 months for selected devices as the iPhone maker seeks to make premium hardware more affordable and encourage faster upgrade cycles.

The subscription-style program, backed by Klarna, will allow customers to finance most iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches with lower monthly payments. Users will have the option to upgrade to a newer device before the end of the payment term, pay off the remaining balance to keep the device, or return it at the end of the lease period.

Under the new scheme, iPhones and Apple Watches will be available on 24-month plans, while iPads and Macs can be financed over 36 months, replacing Apple’s existing financing model for many customers. AppleCare+ will not be included in the new program and must be purchased separately.

The initiative marks one of Apple’s biggest changes to its retail strategy in years, as the company looks to strengthen customer loyalty and sustain device sales through recurring upgrade options amid rising hardware prices. The program is expected to debut in the U.S. on July 28 through Apple Stores and the company’s online platform.
