National Assembly Panel Seeks Answers on PTCL Property Sales, Summons Privatisation Commission

ISLAMABAD
Questions over the sale of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) properties surfaced in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, with lawmakers seeking greater transparency regarding the company’s ongoing asset transactions.

During the committee meeting, member Sadiq Memon raised concerns over reports that PTCL continues to sell its properties, asking officials to provide details about the transactions and the agreements governing them.

“PTCL is continuing the sale and purchase of properties. While the agreement may be confidential, some information regarding PTCL should still be shared with the committee,” Memon said.

Responding to the queries, officials from the Ministry of Information Technology stated that details related to the PTCL agreement fall under the jurisdiction of the Privatisation Commission, which is the relevant authority to provide information on the matter.

The response drew the committee’s attention to the need for a detailed briefing on PTCL’s property dealings and related agreements.

Chairman of the committee subsequently directed that officials from the Privatisation Commission be summoned to the next meeting to brief lawmakers on PTCL-related matters, including the company’s property transactions and the framework governing them.

The committee is expected to seek further clarity on the issue as concerns grow over transparency and oversight in the management of state-linked telecom assets.
