After Google Glass Failure, Google Tries Again With AI-Powered Smart Glasses

More than a decade after the commercial failure of Google Glass, Google is making another ambitious push into wearable technology with a new generation of AI-powered smart glasses expected to launch later this year.

The new smart glasses feature a tiny built-in camera, miniature speakers and direct integration with Google’s AI assistant Gemini, allowing users to interact with artificial intelligence hands-free without constantly looking at a screen.

Unveiled during Google’s annual developer conference in California, the glasses have been designed in partnership with fashion brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, signaling Google’s attempt to combine advanced technology with everyday style.

Google executive Shahram Izadi said the device is designed to keep users’ “hands free and heads up,” with Gemini capable of speaking directly into the wearer’s ear throughout the day.

Unlike the original Google Glass, which faced backlash over privacy concerns and high prices before being withdrawn from the market in 2015, the new version is expected to support both Android and Apple devices, targeting a much wider audience.

The company also revealed it is experimenting with future versions featuring built-in display lenses capable of showing text and visual information directly inside the glasses, although no commercial release timeline has been announced yet.
