ISLAMABAD
Pakistan has announced plans to accelerate the digital transformation of Hajj operations through a major technology initiative led by the National Information Technology Board, alongside the proposed establishment of a Pak-Saudi digital corridor to strengthen bilateral technological cooperation.
Officials said the initiative aims to modernize Hajj management systems, improve coordination for pilgrims and introduce technology-driven services to streamline operational processes during future pilgrimage seasons.
Under the proposed framework, digital platforms will be used to enhance pilgrim registration, tracking, accommodation management, communication systems and service delivery for Pakistani pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia.
Authorities believe the digitization initiative could significantly improve efficiency, transparency and real-time coordination across various government departments involved in Hajj operations.
The proposed Pak-Saudi digital corridor is expected to support broader cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in areas including digital governance, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and smart public services.
Technology officials say the collaboration could also strengthen cross-border digital integration and open new opportunities for technology partnerships, data infrastructure development and innovation exchange between the two countries.
The move comes as governments across the region increasingly adopt digital systems to modernize public administration, religious tourism management and citizen services.
Analysts say the use of digital platforms in Hajj operations could reduce administrative delays, improve pilgrim safety and enhance overall service management for thousands of Pakistani pilgrims traveling annually.
The initiative also aligns with Pakistan’s broader digital transformation agenda focused on expanding e-governance, smart service delivery and technology-enabled public sector modernization.
Industry observers note that closer digital cooperation with Saudi Arabia could further support Pakistan’s ambitions to strengthen its regional technology partnerships and attract investment into the country’s expanding digital economy.
Officials indicated that additional details regarding implementation timelines, infrastructure integration and future digital services will be announced in the coming phases of the project.
