ISLAMABAD
Pakistan is set to introduce a new NADRA mobile app-based “Proof of Life” system for pensioners, marking a major shift toward digital verification of retired public sector beneficiaries, according to media reports.
The initiative, developed under the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), will allow pensioners to complete biometric and facial verification through the Pak Identity mobile application without physically visiting banks or government offices.
The system is designed to confirm that pensioners are alive and eligible to continue receiving pension payments, replacing traditional in-person verification with a secure digital process.
Officials say the move aims to reduce hardship for elderly citizens, particularly those facing mobility or health challenges, while improving efficiency and reducing administrative bottlenecks in pension disbursement.
NADRA’s Pak Identity platform already provides a range of digital identity services, including CNIC-related applications and biometric verification tools, and is now expanding into pension facilitation through the new feature. (nadra.gov.pk)
Under the planned system, pensioners will be able to complete verification from home using smartphone-based biometric authentication, including facial recognition and identity matching through the app.
Reports suggest the feature is part of a broader digital governance push aimed at expanding secure online public services and strengthening Pakistan’s national digital identity infrastructure.
Industry observers say the development reflects a growing global trend toward digital life certification systems for pensioners, reducing dependence on physical documentation and in-person verification processes.
The initiative is expected to be rolled out in phases following formal approval and integration with pension disbursement authorities across the country.
