Only 15% Pakistanis Have Used AI Chatbots; Usage Significantly Higher Among Educated Respondents (52% vs 8%) and Youth

Islamabad, April 21, 2026

Adoption of artificial intelligence tools remains at an early stage in Pakistan, with usage concentrated among more educated and younger segments of the population.

According to a survey conducted by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, only 15% of Pakistanis report having used AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, or similar tools, while a large majority (85%) say they have never used such technologies.

In practical terms, this means that while awareness of AI tools is growing globally, their use in Pakistan remains limited to a relatively small segment of the population.

Majority Have Not Used AI Chatbots

The analysis shows that AI adoption is still in its early phase in Pakistan.

According to the survey:

  • Yes (used AI chatbots): 15%
  • No (not used): 85%

This indicates that a vast majority of Pakistanis have yet to engage with AI technologies, highlighting a significant gap in digital adoption.

Education Strongly Shapes AI Usage

Educational attainment emerges as one of the strongest predictors of AI adoption.

According to the educational breakdown:

Less than FA:

  • Used AI: 8%
  • Not used: 92%

FA and above:

  • Used AI: 52%
  • Not used: 48%

This suggests that AI usage is heavily concentrated among more educated individuals, reflecting differences in digital literacy, access, and exposure.

Younger Pakistanis Lead in AI Adoption

Age-based analysis shows that AI usage is significantly higher among younger respondents.

According to the age breakdown:

  • Under 30: 26%
  • 30–39: 10%
  • 40–49: 8%
  • 50–59: 2%
  • 60+: 7%

This indicates that younger Pakistanis are far more likely to adopt emerging technologies, while older groups show minimal engagement.

A Digital Divide in Emerging Technologies

The findings highlight a clear divide in access to and use of new digital tools.

While AI technologies are rapidly expanding globally, their adoption in Pakistan remains uneven and concentrated among specific demographic groups, particularly the educated and youth.

Early-Stage Adoption with Growth Potential

Taken together, the results suggest that Pakistan is still in the early stages of AI adoption, with significant potential for growth as awareness, access, and digital skills expand.

Bridging gaps in education, digital literacy, and accessibility will be key to ensuring broader and more inclusive adoption of emerging technologies.
