Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima on Wednesday said cybersecurity has become a critical priority in the modern digital age as technological advancement continues to expand the scope of cyber threats.
Addressing a cybersecurity event in Islamabad, the minister said the government is placing strong emphasis on digital protection under the “Digital Nation Pakistan” vision.
“Cybersecurity has gained immense importance in the contemporary era. As technology advances, cyber threats are also increasing,” she said.
Shaza Fatima noted that Pakistan is steadily moving towards a digital economy, and ensuring a secure digital environment remains a top government priority.
“A secure digital Pakistan is essential for sustainable digital growth,” she said, adding that cybersecurity has now become a fundamental requirement for national development.
The minister also said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally overseeing efforts to promote a cashless economy, which forms a key part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda.
“Under the Prime Minister’s vision, Pakistan is progressing towards becoming a digital nation,” she added.
Referring to recent national security challenges, the minister said Pakistan had faced a major confrontation with a much larger adversary last year, where cybersecurity capabilities played an important role.
“Cybersecurity contributed significantly to our success in that conflict,” she said.
Shaza Fatima further emphasized that the government is actively working to ensure the protection of citizens’ personal data and strengthen the country’s overall cyber defense infrastructure.
