New Solar-Charging Laptop Can Operate Even Underwater

A Chinese technology company has introduced an unusual rugged laptop designed to function even in extreme conditions — including underwater use.

The device, the Oukitel RG14 Pro developed by Oukitel, appears to be built less for traditional office environments and more for demanding field operations.

Running on Windows 11, the laptop is powered by a 14th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, paired with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, which can be expanded further.

According to the manufacturer, the machine is capable of handling heavy data processing, multitasking, and diagnostic tasks with performance comparable to desktop computers.

However, the device’s main highlight is its rugged durability rather than raw performance.

The laptop carries IP68 and IP69K certifications, meaning it can withstand dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water exposure. The company claims the device can continue functioning even after being submerged in water.

Weighing around 3.7 kilograms, the laptop features a 14.1-inch display and includes a 180-degree magnetic privacy camera.

The system is powered by a dual-battery setup, combining a 3000mAh internal battery with an additional 5200mAh battery to extend usage time.

One of its most distinctive features is solar charging capability. A solar panel built into the device allows it to recharge using sunlight, though the company says solar charging can restore about 50% battery in roughly six hours under direct sunlight.

The rugged design and alternative charging options suggest the laptop could be suited for outdoor professionals, field researchers, and emergency operations, where conventional devices may struggle to operate.
