China’s smartphone giant Xiaomi may be preparing to overhaul its long-standing product calendar, with fresh leaks suggesting the Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro could launch as early as May 2026 — nearly four months ahead of the company’s usual September window.
For years, Xiaomi has consistently unveiled its T-series smartphones in September. Most recently, the Xiaomi 15T and Xiaomi 15T Pro followed the same schedule, reinforcing a predictable annual cycle.
If the latest report from China proves accurate, shifting the 17T lineup to May would mark a significant strategic pivot and potentially reshape Xiaomi’s broader product roadmap.
Model Numbers and Codenames Surface
According to the leak, the Xiaomi 17T carries the model number 2602DPT53G, while the 17T Pro is listed as 2602EPTC0G. Internally, the devices are reportedly codenamed “Chagall” and “Warhol,” continuing Xiaomi’s tradition of using artist-inspired names for development projects.
Conflicting Details on Specifications
Early specifications remain fluid, with different sources offering contrasting claims.
One report suggests the standard 17T could be powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 chipset, while the Pro variant may feature the more advanced Dimensity 9500. Both models are also expected to ship with larger batteries than their predecessors, although camera upgrades may be incremental.
However, an earlier leak painted a different picture. That version claimed the 17T would instead use the Dimensity 9400 processor, retain the same camera setup as the 15T, but increase battery capacity to 6,500mAh with support for 67W fast charging.
The conflicting reports underscore the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming devices. As is often the case with early smartphone leaks, specifications remain subject to change.
For now, industry watchers say the potential shift in launch timing may prove more consequential than incremental hardware upgrades, signaling Xiaomi’s intent to tighten competition in the mid-to-premium smartphone segment earlier in the year.
