Google has announced a major boost for Pakistan’s students, offering one year of free access to its Gemini AI subscription as the technology giant expands its presence in the country and looks to equip young people with advanced artificial intelligence tools.

The announcement was made during the launch of Google’s new Pakistan office, where Google Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Wilson L. White said the initiative would give students greater access to AI for learning, research and digital skills development.

Students will have to wait for Google’s formal announcement later this week for details on eligibility and the registration process, according to the report.

The initiative comes as Google deepens its engagement with Pakistan’s technology sector and seeks to expand access to artificial intelligence among the country’s large young population.

White said Google had generated more than Rs3.9 trillion in economic activity for Pakistani households and businesses over the past decade and supported more than 960,000 jobs. The company has also helped more than one million Pakistanis develop skills through career certificate programmes and partnerships with schools and teachers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has set an ambition of turning Pakistan into a $30 billion IT export hub, with the government increasingly viewing AI and digital skills as key drivers of future economic growth.

Google’s latest student initiative could give millions of young Pakistanis an opportunity to experiment with advanced AI tools for education, research and productivity, potentially widening access to technologies that are increasingly becoming central to the global digital economy.

The announcement also comes as Google establishes a more direct presence in Pakistan, signalling a deeper focus on the country’s growing technology, education and digital-skills ecosystem.
