The landmark Mecca Joint Defence Agreement was celebrated in Islamabad with the pact’s proceedings displayed on what organisers described as Pakistan’s biggest screen at the Pakistan Asaan Khidmat Centre in G-9.

The public display comes days after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, establishing a framework for closer defence cooperation and collective security amid heightened regional tensions. The agreement states that an armed attack against one of the three countries would be regarded as an attack against all.

The signing in Mecca on Aug. 7 marked a significant development in regional security cooperation, bringing together Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye under a new trilateral defence framework.

The Islamabad display offered citizens an opportunity to witness the historic development on a large public screen, turning the agreement into a visible moment of national celebration.

The pact builds on longstanding defence ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and comes as the Middle East faces heightened security tensions. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had already signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement in 2025 under which aggression against either country was to be treated as aggression against both.

The latest agreement with Türkiye adds a broader trilateral dimension to those security arrangements, with the three countries pledging closer cooperation and collective deterrence.

The public screening in Islamabad reflects the strong interest in Pakistan surrounding the agreement and its potential implications for the country’s strategic and defence relationships.
