Samsung leads domestic production as PTA says 3.81 million 5G-ready devices are now registered nationwide

Pakistan’s domestic production of 5G smartphones has accelerated sharply, with locally manufactured devices nearing the one-million mark as the country prepares for the commercial rollout of next-generation mobile services, according to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) documents.

The documents show that 3.81 million 5G-compatible smartphones have been registered in Pakistan, reflecting a growing consumer base ready for the launch of commercial 5G services. PTA noted that users will require compatible handsets to access 5G, while some devices may also need software updates before the service can be activated.

Local manufacturing has gathered pace, with 162,040 5G smartphones assembled in April 2026, taking the cumulative number of locally produced 5G devices to 961,326 by the end of May 2026.

Samsung emerged as the leading locally assembled 5G smartphone brand, producing 396,268 devices, followed by locally manufactured models from Vivo, Oppo, ZTE, Infinix and Tecno, highlighting Pakistan’s expanding mobile device manufacturing ecosystem.

The PTA said increased local production is expected to make 5G-enabled smartphones more affordable, lowering the entry barrier for consumers ahead of the nationwide deployment of the technology.

The regulator’s network performance data also showed Jazz recording the highest average 5G download speed at 135.42 Mbps, followed closely by Ufone at 133.65 Mbps, while Zong registered an average speed of 108.66 Mbps during network testing.

According to the documents, PTA is continuously monitoring mobile network performance across the country through the advanced Rohde & Schwarz Quality Monitoring System to ensure operators meet service quality benchmarks as Pakistan moves closer to launching commercial 5G services.
