ISLAMABAD
Pakistan Railways has imposed a sweeping ban on unauthorized filming and photography across its network, in a move aimed at tightening security and controlling the flow of sensitive information.
Under the new directive, journalists, vloggers, influencers and the general public are prohibited from capturing photos or videos of railway operations, infrastructure and restricted areas without prior written approval from authorities.
Officials said the restrictions apply to stations, trains and operational zones nationwide, warning that any content creation without permission will be treated as a violation of regulations.
The policy also bars media coverage and publication of railway-related material unless explicitly authorised, marking a significant escalation in oversight of digital and traditional media activity linked to the department.
Authorities say the decision is part of broader efforts to enhance security, safeguard critical infrastructure and prevent misuse of visual content in sensitive areas.
The move is expected to impact a growing community of travel vloggers and social media creators, particularly those producing content for platforms like TikTok and YouTube, where railway footage has gained popularity in recent years.
Analysts note the development reflects an increasing trend among state institutions to regulate digital content more tightly, as Pakistan grapples with balancing public access, security concerns and the rapid rise of online media.
