Lahore
The Punjab government has announced plans to establish the country’s first-ever fully integrated Film City in Lahore, in a major push to revitalise Pakistan’s struggling film and media industry.
State-of-the-Art Media Hub
The project, unveiled by Maryam Nawaz, will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City and is envisioned as a complete “end-to-end” production hub for film, television, animation and digital media.
Spanning approximately 50 acres, the Film City will house modern studios, sound stages, and advanced post-production facilities under one roof.
Reducing Reliance on Foreign Services
Officials say the initiative aims to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on foreign countries for visual effects (VFX) and post-production, by providing cutting-edge local alternatives.
The facility will also include:
- Dedicated shooting locations and sets
- Post-production laboratories
- Convention halls for international events
- Film and music training institutions
Boost for Jobs and Creative Economy
Authorities expect the project to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, while supporting sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital content creation.
Maryam Nawaz described the Film City as a platform to bring together talent, technology and investment, helping position Pakistan as a regional creative hub.
Toward a New Creative Future
Analysts say the move signals a renewed focus on Pakistan’s creative economy, with modern infrastructure seen as key to attracting both local and international productions.
If implemented successfully, the Lahore Film City could mark a turning point for the country’s entertainment sector, long hindered by limited resources and outdated facilities.
