Islamabad
Pakistan’s cyber security authorities have issued an alert warning of potential cyber attacks targeting sensitive government systems, as security agencies brace for heightened digital threats in the coming days.
According to official sources, the alert has been issued by the National Computer Emergency Response Team Pakistan, which has directed federal ministries and departments to strengthen their cyber defences and enhance real-time monitoring of their networks.
Heightened Risk to Critical Systems
Officials said there is an increased risk of cyber attacks on sensitive infrastructure and government networks, particularly around the anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq”, prompting precautionary measures across multiple institutions.
The advisory urges all departments to immediately update their systems, ensure timely installation of security patches, and implement stronger access controls to prevent unauthorized intrusion.
Security Measures Strengthened
National CERT has recommended a series of preventive steps, including:
- Regular monitoring of government networks
- Immediate software and security updates
- Mandatory password changes
- Activation of multi-factor authentication systems
- Secure data backups and recovery planning
Authorities have also stressed the importance of avoiding suspicious emails, links and attachments, which are commonly used in phishing and malware attacks.
Call for Rapid Response Preparedness
Departments have been instructed to maintain rapid response readiness in case of any cyber incident and to immediately report suspicious activity to the national cyber emergency response team.
Officials say the advisory is part of routine preventive cybersecurity measures, aimed at safeguarding government systems against evolving digital threats.
As cyber risks continue to grow globally, Pakistan’s security agencies are increasingly focusing on proactive defence mechanisms to protect critical digital infrastructure.
