ISLAMABAD
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Ufone, paving the way for its merger with Telenor, officials said.
According to sources within the regulator, Ufone has agreed to PTA’s 18-page conditions, clearing a major regulatory hurdle in the consolidation process. The next step will move to the Islamabad High Court, which is expected to issue a formal amalgamation order. Once granted, Telenor’s independent operations will be fully dissolved under the merger.
Authorities have assured that the merger will not impose any additional burden on consumers, emphasizing that services, pricing, and subscriber benefits will remain unaffected during and after the integration.
The move marks a significant restructuring in Pakistan’s telecom sector, consolidating two major operators and streamlining market operations while maintaining regulatory oversight to protect consumer interests.
