Govt Finalises Petrol Subsidy App for Low-Income Citizens

ISLAMABAD

The government has finalised a mobile application aimed at delivering targeted petrol subsidies to low-income citizens, as part of efforts to manage rising fuel costs and the ongoing energy crisis.

Officials said the app-based system will allocate fixed fuel quotas to eligible users, particularly motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers, ensuring subsidies reach those most in need. The platform has been developed and is in the final stages of testing ahead of a formal rollout.

Under the mechanism, users will receive digital vouchers through the app, which will be verified at petrol pumps using QR codes. The system is designed to prevent misuse by strictly enforcing monthly fuel limits for each registered user.

Authorities are also setting up dedicated infrastructure at fuel stations, including designated nozzles and digital monitoring tools, to ensure transparency and smooth implementation nationwide.

The initiative is part of a broader shift towards targeted subsidies, replacing blanket relief measures with technology-driven solutions to control costs and improve efficiency.

Officials added that a final decision is yet to be made on whether the scheme will be extended to small cars, but the primary focus remains on supporting low-income segments reliant on two- and three-wheelers.
