The Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue will examine additional charges imposed by banks and telecom operators in a key meeting scheduled for April 1 at Parliament House, as concerns grow over hidden fees and consumer rights.

According to officials, representatives from the banking and telecom sectors will brief lawmakers on the nature and justification of these charges, following increasing complaints from customers about lack of transparency.

The committee will also take up a range of financial and administrative issues, including salary and allowance matters for government employees. Proposals under review include an honorarium for Parliament House medical staff equivalent to five months’ basic pay, while concerns over pay structures for tenure track faculty will also be discussed.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is expected to brief the panel on key issues, including a request by the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding the non-implementation of a presidential order issued in July 2025.

The meeting is expected to play a key role in shaping policy direction on consumer protection and financial transparency across key service sectors.
