Pakistan Awards 5G Spectrum Licences to Three Operators, PM Hails ‘Transformational Step’

ISLAMABAD

Pakistan has awarded 5G spectrum licences to three telecom operators, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation drive.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing the ceremony, praised the successful auction of the 5G spectrum, calling it a “remarkable step” in today’s era of rapid technological advancement.

He said the expansion of modern technology would serve as a catalyst for growth across key sectors including industry, agriculture and information technology, adding that efforts are underway to extend digital connectivity to every corner of the country, including rural and remote areas.

Sharif also underscored that the 5G spectrum auction was conducted in a transparent manner, while commending the team for effectively resolving longstanding legal challenges that had previously hindered progress.

He specifically acknowledged the role of Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar for his support in addressing legal hurdles, paving the way for the rollout of next-generation mobile services in Pakistan.
