ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT) has completed an extensive profiling exercise of cyber threat actors, identifying more than 120 hackers and groups targeting critical national infrastructure, officials said.
According to National CERT, the identified actors were actively attempting to infiltrate sensitive government and defence networks, with several cyberattacks traced to organized groups and potentially state-sponsored operations.
The agency said the profiling initiative has enabled authorities to better understand attackers’ tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), allowing for more timely detection and response to emerging threats.
Officials revealed that threat actors were specifically seeking access to government institutions, defence systems, and critical information infrastructure, raising concerns about ongoing cyber warfare risks.
The findings emerged from a comprehensive cyber threat hunting operation, during which advanced analytical methods were used to map attackers’ tools, behavioral patterns, and intrusion strategies.
National CERT emphasized that the development of detailed threat profiles has significantly improved Pakistan’s early warning and response capabilities, strengthening defenses against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
The agency added that efforts are underway to further enhance monitoring systems and intelligence-sharing mechanisms to safeguard the country’s digital infrastructure.
“Hostile elements continue to target key national systems,” officials warned, stressing that continuous surveillance and coordinated response remain essential to counter evolving cyber risks.
