Khyber Network Broadcast Comes Under Cyberattack Attempt

Islamabad:

A suspected cyberattack targeting the broadcast systems of Khyber Network was successfully thwarted after hackers allegedly attempted to disrupt transmissions late on March 12, according to a statement issued by the channel.

The network said the attempted intrusion occurred between 10:30pm and 2:15am, when unidentified hackers tried to compromise its broadcast systems. The attempt was foiled following timely intervention by state institutions and the channel’s technical teams, preventing any major disruption to transmissions.

The broadcaster alleged that the attack involved hackers linked to Afghanistan along with alleged Indian facilitators, though authorities have yet to officially confirm the identity of those responsible.

The incident comes days after a series of cyberattacks on March 1, when several Pakistani television channels, including Geo News, and multiple websites were reportedly targeted by hackers attempting to breach their systems.

Initial reports at the time suggested that some websites were temporarily compromised, while technical teams worked to restore services. There were also claims that satellite frequencies used by certain television channels were targeted, leading to brief broadcast interruptions in some locations.

Officials said efforts are underway to further strengthen security of broadcasting infrastructure and restore affected systems where necessary.

No formal government statement has yet been issued regarding the nature of the latest attack or the actors behind it. However, security agencies and cybersecurity experts are investigating the incident.

Analysts warn that cyber threats often intensify during periods of regional tension, underscoring the need for institutions to reinforce the security of their digital infrastructure and broadcasting systems. 🔐📡
