The second phase of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction reached a new milestone as bidding for the 3500 MHz band positioning officially commenced on Thursday.
The event was inaugurated by Federal IT Minister Shiza Fatima, accompanied by the IT Secretary and PTA Chairman, highlighting the government’s push toward advancing next-generation connectivity.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Fatima said the spectrum allocation process for 498 MHz was successfully completed yesterday, and the focus has now shifted to positioning the 3500 MHz spectrum. She emphasized that 5G will strengthen the foundation of the Digital Pakistan vision, adding that technology and high-speed internet are now critical national priorities.
Minister Fatima also noted the growing importance of cybersecurity, stating that cyber warfare plays a decisive role in today’s technological landscape, underlining the need for robust digital defenses alongside rapid connectivity rollout.
Officials said the auction continues in real time, with telecom operators competing to secure optimal spectrum positions ahead of commercial 5G deployment in Pakistan.
