Islamabad

The Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology convened today to review cybersecurity measures and the safety of sensitive national databases, with particular focus on NADRA.

During the session, Senator Afnan Ullah raised concerns over whether NADRA’s personal data had surfaced on the dark web. NADRA officials clarified that their data is not currently available on the dark web, though past leaks of some information from other agencies had occurred. “The data in question did not originate from NADRA,” officials emphasized.

The committee was briefed on NADRA’s recent security upgrades, including the purchase and installation of 1,400 firewalls at critical sites to bolster defense against cyber threats. Despite these measures, officials admitted that NADRA data cannot be considered completely secure, highlighting ongoing challenges in safeguarding sensitive information.

This review comes amid growing national and global concerns over data privacy and cybersecurity, underscoring the need for constant vigilance and robust IT infrastructure to protect citizens’ personal information.
