ISLAMABAD:
The second round of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction concluded on Tuesday, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority announcing the results and highlighting strong demand for key frequency bands.
Officials said the 2600 MHz band saw additional demand, resulting in a 5 percent increase in spectrum prices. In this band, one telecom operator switched two lots, while seven additional bids were received, indicating intense competition among the operators.
In the 700 MHz band, PTA reported that bids were received for two lots, reflecting growing interest in the lower-frequency spectrum crucial for nationwide coverage.
The regulator confirmed that the bidding process for the 2600 MHz spectrum will continue in the next round, ensuring fair allocation and market-driven pricing.
Authorities emphasized that the auction is a pivotal step toward the rollout of 5G services, which will improve connectivity, expand digital infrastructure, and support Pakistan’s emerging technology-driven economy.
