Users of WhatsApp may soon see a new premium subscription option called WhatsApp Plus, which could introduce additional customization tools and enhanced chat controls while keeping the core messaging service free.
The potential feature was reported by WABetaInfo, a platform known for monitoring upcoming updates and experimental features in the app.
According to early reports, the proposed subscription would focus on expanding personalization options without changing the free nature of WhatsApp’s basic messaging service.
One of the main highlights of WhatsApp Plus could be expanded customization features. Subscribers may be able to change the application’s icon and select from a wider range of visual themes. Reports suggest the plan may include around 14 additional app icons along with more color options, allowing users to personalize the look and feel of the messaging interface.
The premium tier could also introduce exclusive notification sounds and ringtones, giving users greater control over how they receive message alerts.
Another notable upgrade may involve a significant increase in the number of pinned chats. Currently, WhatsApp allows users to pin three conversations, but the proposed Plus plan could raise that limit to up to 20 pinned chats, a feature that may appeal to users who manage large volumes of conversations.
In addition, the company is reportedly considering subscriber-only sticker packs and more interactive chat features that could be rolled out in future updates.
The feature remains under development and has not yet been officially announced by Meta Platforms. If launched, the subscription would represent one of the platform’s most significant steps toward introducing optional premium services while maintaining its free messaging model.
