Pakistan Develops Advanced Cyber Defense System to Counter Foreign Attacks

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has taken a significant step in strengthening its cyber defenses, with the country’s national cyber response body announcing the development of a new security system designed to detect and counter cyberattacks originating from abroad.

Officials from the National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT) said the agency has developed an advanced Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) antivirus platform aimed at protecting government digital infrastructure from hacking attempts and malicious cyber activities.

According to officials, the EDR software has already been installed across government computer systems nationwide, enabling authorities to identify and block cyber threats in real time. The system is designed to monitor suspicious activity, detect malware, and prevent unauthorized access before it can compromise sensitive data.

Authorities stated that testing is also underway to introduce a mobile version of the EDR application, allowing similar protection mechanisms to be extended to smartphones used within official networks.

The development comes as Pakistan continues to face increasing cyber threats targeting government systems and digital platforms. Officials noted that monitoring efforts have been intensified against websites and online content deemed hostile to Pakistan, while social media accounts spreading anti-state narratives are also being closely tracked.

In addition to deploying the new security software, the National Computer Emergency Response Team has established a dedicated cybersecurity control room to monitor potential hacking attempts and cyberattacks around the clock.

Officials say the new system will significantly enhance Pakistan’s ability to respond quickly to digital threats and strengthen the protection of national cyber infrastructure.
