5G Launch a Gift for Pakistanis, Says NA IT Committee Chairman

ISLAMABAD:

The Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on IT and Telecommunication, Amin-ul-Haque, on Thursday described the upcoming 5G rollout as a “gift” for the people of Pakistan, promising faster internet speeds and enhanced connectivity.

Speaking to the media, he said efforts to launch 5G have been ongoing for several years and that the 5G spectrum auction is scheduled for March 10. “Currently, internet speeds in the country average around 5 Mbps. With 5G, speeds will rise to 50 Mbps, giving consumers a much faster downloading experience,” he said.

The chairman added that the initial 5G rollout will cover five major cities: Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. Plans are already underway to extend 5G services to ten additional cities next year, bringing Pakistan on par with other South Asian countries in digital connectivity.

“The launch of 5G will significantly enhance internet access and place Pakistan alongside regional peers in technological advancement,” he said, highlighting the government’s commitment to modernizing the country’s digital infrastructure.
