A German technology company has unveiled a smartphone that challenges one of the industry’s biggest pain points: battery life. The device, called the MC 03 by Berlin-based startup Punktet, is claimed to run for nearly a week on a single charge under normal use.
While most modern smartphones struggle to last more than one or two days, the MC 03 can operate for six to seven days without recharging, the company said. Even with heavy usage, the phone is expected to deliver four to five days of battery life.
The extended endurance does not come from an unusually large battery. Instead, the company has focused on software efficiency and user privacy. Unlike conventional smartphones, where multiple apps run continuously in the background and consume power and data, the MC 03 restricts background activity by default.
Apps on the device do not have automatic internet access, preventing background data collection and reducing power drain. Users can manually control which apps are allowed to connect online, a design choice that prioritises privacy while significantly improving battery performance.
The smartphone runs on AphyOS, an operating system based on the Android Open Source Project, and is designed to give users greater control over data sharing. Hardware features include a 120Hz OLED display, a removable battery and a triple-camera setup on the back.
The MC 03 is expected to go on sale in Europe in the coming months with a price tag of around $700, positioning it as a premium alternative for users seeking long battery life and stronger privacy protections in an increasingly power-hungry smartphone market.
