Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Shaza Khawaja held a high-level meeting with Khalifa AlShamsi, CEO of Etisalat International, and Hatem Bamatraf, CEO of PTCL, to review key developments in Pakistan’s telecom sector and ongoing digital infrastructure initiatives.
Officials discussed progress on the PTCL–Telenor merger, aimed at consolidating the telecom market and improving efficiency, as well as preparations for the upcoming spectrum auction to boost network capacity nationwide.
The meeting also focused on accelerating fiberization across the country, including tower fiberization targets, improving network quality and service reliability, and expanding PTCL’s role in AI-enabled data centre services to support Pakistan’s growing digital economy.
“The engagement underscores the government’s commitment to a resilient and high-quality telecom infrastructure that encourages investment, innovation, and digital transformation,” a statement from the Ministry said.
The discussions signal continued efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s telecom ecosystem as the country seeks to enhance connectivity, digital services, and nationwide broadband coverage.
